Hanna’s Close consists of seven cottages tightly packed together known as Clachans, mainly for protection, where a small plot of land was subdivided within a family or heirs for them to try to make a living. Originally there were four Hanna families living there, however, by 1860 that had grown to eight families. There was also a one acre field near the river where each family had the right to graze a donkey.
